This is an original real photo postcard (RPPC) featuring Rita Sacchetto (1868–1959), the celebrated Italian actress, dancer, and artist. The card shows her in a soft, natural pose, holding a print or postcard. At the bottom left corner is the publisher’s mark GCS (no.1610/1). The reverse is a standard international postcard back with red multilingual print. The front of the postcard features a sharply focused portrait of Sacchetto, wearing a white gown with lace trim and voluminous sleeves. Her hair is fashionably styled in curls, with a ribbon or headpiece adorning the crown. She gazes directly at the viewer with a thoughtful and serene expression, suggesting both elegance and intellect. The reverse of the card is unused and divided back. Rita Sacchetto was a multi-talented Italian performer, born in Verona, Italy, in 1868. She became well-known across Europe in the early 20th century as both a dancer and stage actress, admired for her dramatic style and expressive performances. Beyond the stage, she was also active as a painter and designer, producing costume and stage designs that reflected her artistic sensibility. Sacchetto specialized in what were called “dance imitations,” where she would recreate famous works of art through movement and costume. This was part of a broader European fascination with “living pictures” or tableaux vivants, where performers staged scenes resembling paintings. Her performances, combining dance, art, and theater, earned her international acclaim.In addition to performing, Sacchetto painted and designed her own costumes, making her stand out from many contemporaries who relied on stage designers. Her work blended visual arts with theatrical interpretation, giving her a reputation as both performer and intellectual. Rita married Count Tranquillo Marangoni of Udine, Italy, in 1905. Their daughter, Eva Marangoni, became a notable illustrator and painter in her own right. Sacchetto later taught and continued her artistic work into her later years. She passed away in Turin, Italy, in 1959 at the age of 91. It is interesting to note that Sacchetto was sometimes mentioned alongside Isadora Duncan in the press of the time, as both being innovators in early modern dance. She helped elevate the concept of dance as “fine art,” not merely entertainment. This postcard portrait is in Very Good condition. The photo has strong contrast and clarity to the photographic image.
