Scarce, VERY EARLY Colorful Antique Engraved Nathaniel Currier c.1850 Print, "THE FLOWER VASE", HAND TINTED/ COLORED!!!
DESCRIPTION:Scans show it all.....very nice ORIGINAL ANTEBELLUM/Civil War hand-colored/tinted antique CURRIER print. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY EARLY, BEFORE HIS FAMOUS PARTNERSHIP WITH IVES. Done about 1850.
ONE OF THE EARLIEST COLORED ENGRAVINGS I HAVE SEEN, and looks great in the original frame. Nice to find it IN ITHE SAME ORIGINAL FRAME THAT IT HAS BEEN IN FOR ROUGHLY 170 YEARS!!! Great early wide hardwood frame. Original glass as well, including a few early bubbles!!! Also has the original wooden backing board.
A great, brightly colored still life of flowers in a vase. Also has a picture of a girl, possibly the one that received the flowers, the print as a gift, or possibly a passed sweetheart who the floral print was intended to memorialize.
Great print that will go well with any collection or on any wall.A great PERIOD portrait, and one of the nicest CURRIER PRINTS YOU WILLSEE ANYWHERE. Flowers and animals are much scarcer than prints of people.
Very fancy and nicely done. At the bottom has "N. Currier" and the 2 Spruce St/New York address, so pre-Ives work.Currier hired young women to HAND COLOR the prints. They were then lithographed using stone engravings.
This is a particularly nice, early print, and very striking. Overall framed size is approximately 14 3/4" x 17 1/2". Wired on the back for easy installation right out of the box.
Unusual early subject matter and has great eyeappeal to decorate any period wall or collection display.
In very good conditionoverall.
