RARE SET 1906 Design Antique Clay Poker Chips Engraved w/ Indian Chief 4 Colors For Sale

This "Buy it Now" offering is for three antique clay poker chips engraved with the profile of a Native American Chief in feather headdress in three colors: red, white and blue. Among poker chip collectors, this chip is known as Indian Chief Engraved (PE-JK) and this historic design appeared as early as 1906 in the U.S. Playing Card Company (Cincinnati) catalog of gambling supplies.

Clay chips like these began replacing ivory chips beginning in the 1880s and gambling houses used many different designs for their chips to avoid a player from slipping in their own identical plain clay chips rather than “buying in.” As a result, there were hundreds of engraved chip designs that were manufactured through the early 1900s, making them popular with collectors today.
