RARE Naval Pilot Escape & Evasion Gold Kit - Sealed - As seen on Pawns Stars
It's been a couple of decades or more since we have seen or handled one of these. We haven't seen one at a coin convention in over two decades. With the price of gold skyrocketing since then, we suspect only a few sealed or broken-open ones still remain.
These kits were made by the US Gov't for Naval Pilots. Two types of kits were made - Atlantic and Pacific. This is the Atlantic kit. Each kit was serial numbered as shown on the front of the case. This one is #931. There is also a lead strip mounted in the center with these same numbers stamped on it - You will notice that in the X-ray we obtained. Anyone who has tried to open this rare kit knows how difficult they are to pry open. We opened one years ago, and it took over three hours. Photo #3 shows the information on this kit and just how rare they are in tack - " with only 20 known to exist in their original sealed state."

An episode aired in 2019 on Pawn Stars in Las Vegas. You can Google and watch the video. Rick had an expert come in, and he stated just how rare they are, even though the one brought in had been opened. I believe at that time Rick offered $5,000. Gold was around $1270 to $1542/oz in 2019. The last one we saw was at the 2003 MSNS Detroit Coin Convention, and the dealer had it listed for $20,000 and would not take less.
We were contacted by a military museum in Indiana 20 years ago to see about purchasing one for the museum. We had one being offered at the time. Unfortunately, the museum did not have enough funds to purchase it. The history of this kit is amazing. The pilots would check one out each day and have to return it once back. These kits were made for the pilots to barter with if shot down. behind enemy lines.
In 1980 A small cache of these kits were discovered in a Government warehouse in Columbus, Ohio. The DOD decided to hold a sealed offer sale for them. Without this sale, the general public would have never had the opportunity to own one. The winning buyer will also receive copies of the documentation from the advertisement and DOD sale.
The photos of the opened kit are for reference only as to what to expect in this listing. We also have an X-ray of this kit. You don't see the coins, as the gold coins and rings show up white as the x-Ray doesn't penetrate them. This is proof that they are there.

#2. All returns must be received in the exact condition you received it in. Coin flips are heat-sealed to prevent the switching of coins. This is industry standard practice. If this seal is broken showing the coin has been removed, your return will not be processed. Your coin will be returned to you immediately with no refund. Coin slab holders must not be damaged.
#3. Returns must be received back to us no later than 30 days. No exceptions. Refunds are typically processed within 1-2 days of receipt, often the same day. There may be an occasion that we are out of the office attending a coin convention, but we will message you acknowledging receipt of your return and when to expect your refund.
#4. When returning items, please package securely and insure for full value. We cannot assume responsibility for items lost or damaged in delivery. The buyer is responsible for the returned item until tracking shows delivered to us.
