ULTRA-RARE PAIR!!! Originally created by MAISON DESNY (ca. 1929, see screenshots from LE LUMINAIRE/ photo # 19), this pair of “Demeter” table lamps were produced (ca. 1980) in a very limited quantity on the occasion of the museum exhibition at the Decorative Arts Museum.
MAISON DESNY was the very fashionable Paris design firm formed by Desnet and Rene Mauny, who collaborated on interiors by Jean-Michel Frank and Rob Mallet-Stevens, for a very brief period, ca. 1927-1933. Their atelier and shop was located at 122, Champs Elysees, Paris. Both avant-garde and tres luxe, their work is prized among collectors.
Instantly recognizable for their sleek, minimalist, modernist style — blending High Glamour with a Machine Age aesthetic — these lamps provide a nice diffused light and beautifully offset 1920’s-1930’s streamline moderne as well as Mid Century Modern objects and decor (see pic with Karl Springer era Lucite skyscraper sculpture— NOT INCLUDED!) They work well with Hollywood Regency as well as contemporary pieces by Ralph Lauren, Baker, and Henredon.
The lamps are comprised of a base and top made of a rich stained wood and square glass panels forming the diffuser. They make for fabulous accent lighting in the bedroom or TV area, particularly if using with a dimmer. (Not included)
