HALLOWEEN IS FAST APPROACHING. LISTED IS A GROUPING OF ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE HALLOWEEN ITEMS, AS WELL AS SOME AMERICANA. PLEASE CHECK OUT ALL THE OTHER sales CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.Listed for sale is a RARE antiqueHalloweenSKULL LANTERN with Crepe Paper Collarfrom Germany c. 1920. This is a terrific early lantern constructed of paper mache material and painted white overall. The skull has typical sunken eyes that have old red cellophane attached inside. The skull also has really nice molding for the depressed sides of the head, the triangular nose and lines of the face. There is red printed paper for the nose and printed white and black teeth showing in the smiling mouth.
The skull is attached to a cardboard base with an interior cardboard candleholder ring. Around the neck is a faded ruffled orange crepe paper collar. The lantern measures 5 inches high. It remains in very good condition for its early age, showing minor signs of age - including a bit of surface discoloration, separation of the side seams (mostly at the top), minor creases (roughness around the top opening), and wrinkling (small tears) of the crepe paper collar. The nose and mouth paper inserts also show tiny tears / holes. Overall this is a wonderful lantern that would be a fantastic addition to any antique folk art of Halloween collection !!
