This Bible is more than just a book; it is a piece of my family’s soul. It has been lovingly passed down through three generations—from my Grandmother, to my Aunt, and finally to me. Letting go of this piece is incredibly difficult, but I am looking for a new home where its history will be honored and preserved. It has seen a lifetime of devotion and carries the energy of the many hands that have turned its pages.Item Overview• Copyright Date: 1870 (Entered according to Act of Congress by J.R. Jones).
• Binding: Original deep-brown leather with massive \"panelled\" or \"deep-recessed\" embossing.
• Title: Features the name \"H. M. FOGG\" professionally stamped in gold on the front cover.
• Edges: All edges are finished in high-quality gold gilt, which still retains a brilliant shine when the book is closed.
• Artistry: Contains over 200 fine scripture illustrations, including dramatic full-page steel engravings (like \"The Deliverance of St. Peter\") and architectural diagrams of Solomon’s Temple.
Unique Features
• Victorian Portrait Album: A rare and beautiful feature of this edition is the integrated Family Portrait section at the back. It currently holds several original 19th-century tintypes and photographs of the previous owners.
• Comprehensive Contents: Includes both the Old and New Testaments, a complete Bible Dictionary, and a Concordance.
• Scripture Ribbons: The cover features four gold-embossed \"scrolls\" with verses from the King James Version, including \"Search the Scriptures\" and \"They Testify of Me.\"Condition ReportConsidering this Bible is over 155 years old, it is in remarkable condition.
• Interior: The pages are surprisingly clean and the engravings remain crisp with minimal foxing (aging spots).
• Binding: The leather is still rich and supple. There is some expected \"tearing\" or separation at the hinges and the spine edges (please see photos). This is simply a testament to its age and the fact that it was used and loved, not tucked away in a box.
• Integrity: The binding remains strong enough for display and careful consultation. This hasn’t been easy for me to get rid of, but it’s time. I wanna make sure it goes to a good home that’ll give it the love and care it deserves! 🙏🏼
