- ~*~Hello and thank you for looking~*~
Wonderful antique French quilt~ this quilt is one of those wonderful textiles, that started life earlier, and was added on to with time! ~ there is an early to mid 1800\'s hand stitched quilt that is used as the base for this lovely textile. This quilt was made for a 4 poster bed ~ Then, later the fabric that now makes up the front of this lovely quilt was added sometime around 1900~ The front fabric is a sateen cotton, that has a lovely soft textile and slight sheen ~ the design is stunning, gorgeous art Nouveau floral print ~ the colors include: burgundy ground, lovely shades of greens, soft pinks , reds and a lovely cream tone. There are some little bits of gold tone in this print also~ beautiful ~ the back is a twill weave, muslin like cotton ~ all hand stitched in a pattern. The top of this quilt has a little square that was used for a 4 poster bed ( where the posts were) ! ~ photograph 7 shows the cotton backing and hand stitching on this square , the backing is a cream linen, with tiny hand stitched LS monogram! ~ the hand stitching is gorgeous!!!~ The satinised cotton front has been machine stitched to the earlier quilt~ there is a tiny hole in the front and inside I can see that there is a layer of light feathers ~ however the earlier quilt used a cotton batting ~*~ This is a lovely textile~*~ ~! ~*~
This quilt measures 62 inches wide by 69 incheslong ( not taking the little pillow flap into the measurements. The pillow square attached to the end measures 32 inches wide by 19 inches long ~ )
CONDITION : This textile is generally in lovely condition. It is unwashed with storage dirt , so needs to be cleaned. I recommend dry cleaning this textile in order to preserve the satanized effect of the front cotton. The backing has dirt marks that may not fully wash, some should be spot treated. Most will wash well, however some may not wash ~ the front fabric is in lovely conditoin. There is some wear around the edges (on the fold there are some holes in the very edge, only small and few) and there is one very small ( half inch) slit in the front fabric that can be hand stitched easily! ~*~ It is genterally in lovely conditoin, however now without small flaws ~ a gorgeous antique textile, full of wonderful hitory~*~
