Offered exclusively by The Leader In Quality! Is this very rare gold society item for theCliosophic Society at Princeton! This item represents one of very early precursors or fraternity groups within college communities. My understanding via research is that these gold medals were in use only from 1808-1833.(Only those members of the group reaching the highest honors upon graduation received one)
This hand engraved beauty displays the highly detailed handshake / grip along with the society motto...PRODESSE QUAM CONSPICI meaning (" to accomplish rather than to be conspicuous"or "to do good rather than to be seen")
On the reverse, you see CLIOS. SOC. INSTITUTA A.D. MDCCLXVThe Roman Numeral date (1765) indicates the founding date.
This gold piece was converted to a pin long ago. The top loop section was removed and the T-bar hinge pin and C-clasp were added. (Very well done I'd say)The size is correct for what this item is.1 1/2" x 1 1/2"At least 10K gold.
