So I did a lot of research on this pipe, didn\'t wanna rush anything. I started with silver hallmark that says it was carved in Austria during Austrian Empire but exact year is impossible to read. Second mark with 3 letters represents master carver who made it but unfortunately, it\'s not clear enough to be identified.
It\'s a huge piece. Carving is rich, representing battle from Austro-Turkish war that lasted from 1716-18. You have armies represented on both sides and soldiers charging on their horses on bottom part. Some yellowing is there, it turned to beautiful orange color. Wide silver cap around shank\'s end and a big silver cap on top of the bowl. Beautiful carving on silver as well. Chamber is huge and tall, considering this was top of the line meerschaum block, it\'s preserved wonderfully, and this pipe can still be enjoyed and smoked normally after almost two centuries.
How many generations held this pipe in their hands? What has it seen in its lifetime? If it could speak, there would be so many stories to tell. It\'s not for everyone, that\'s for sure. We\'ve all seen similar pieces being offered for sale for thousands and thousands. They\'re sold at sales for high numbers as well. In this case, I am aware of its value but also the fact that carver remained unknown to me and that I\'m not Sotheby\'s nor Christie\'s. So, I\'m forming a price that I think is fair and appropriate.
