Port Arthur, Texas Family Photograph Collection — Clarice Holloway Gallery
Original six-piece, multi-generation photograph collection from the same family, including early family portraits and three photographs documenting an unidentified ceremony or recognition event inside the Clarice Holloway Gallery at the Texas Artists Museum in Port Arthur, Texas.
Suitable for framing.
All six photographs came from the same family collection and are being kept together to preserve their shared provenance and historical connection.
The collection includes:
• Early black-and-white photograph of three women standing outside a house
• Color school portrait of a young woman
• Formal black-and-white portrait of a man
• Three color photographs from an event inside the Clarice Holloway Gallery
One photograph has a handwritten 1969 family notation on the reverse. The school portrait has an August 1978 Fox Photo processing mark. The Clarice Holloway Gallery name is clearly visible above the group in one event photograph.
The gallery photographs show a woman receiving or displaying a framed certificate while surrounded by family members and other attendees.
The Texas Artists Museum Society was organized by Port Arthur citizens in 1972. Clarice Holloway was one of its charter members, and one of the museum’s galleries was named in her honor.
The precise relationship between the pictured family and Clarice Holloway has not been established. The woman holding the certificate is not represented as Clarice Holloway without supporting documentation.
