Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp 1930/40’s Period: $345.99
First three years of its existence, Philmont Scout Ranch was known as Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp. It was initially called Philturn because of Waite Phillips' "good turn" to Scouting. He donated over 127,000 acres of beautiful Sangre de Cristo Rocky Mountain wilderness in 1938 and camping by Scouts began in 1939. At least some of the 196 campers that first summer were issued a round patch known as PT1. Those first year patches are so rare that it is hard to even find images of one on the net. The present patch up for sale is known as PT2 and it was used in 1940 and 1941. The new name "Philmont" was in place by the summer of 1942. Not many campers visited in those early years and thus there were not a lot of PT2 patches produced. Enough of them survived, however, that examples show up for sale on with some regularity. Mint condition. Questions are welcome. This particular PT2 is going to be a strong focal point in a lucky patch collector's cabinet. Former staffer? -- you should own one. Former camper? A lot of bragging rights come with this patch. There's been more than a million campers pass through Philmont now. If you are trekking at Philmont in 2018, here is one dandy trophy to take along
