Beautiful matched pair of handwoven basket vessels created in the traditional weaving style of the Wounaan and Emberá peoples of Darién Province, Panama.
This coordinated display set includes one large vessel-form basket and one smaller companion basket, each exhibiting exceptionally fine weaving and intricate geometric patterning. The larger basket features complex labyrinth and stepped motifs that continue throughout the interior and base, while the smaller companion basket displays complementary geometric and starburst designs.
Both baskets were acquired from the same collection as other Panama baskets that retained original collector documentation identifying them as Wounaan and Emberá artisan works. The fine stitch count, sophisticated patterning, and traditional materials are all consistent with authentic Darién basketry.
Handwoven from natural forest fibers and dyed using traditional methods, these baskets represent the remarkable craftsmanship for which Wounaan and Emberá weaving traditions are internationally recognized. The pair displays beautifully together and offers far greater visual impact than either basket alone.
