FIRST PRINTINGS — VERIFIED, NOT ASSUMEDThe indicia of #1 states it plainly: "PREDATOR #1 (1st printing) June, 1989, Publishedby Dark Horse Comics." Photographed and included below. This matters — later printingsof this series exist and sell for considerably less, and plenty of listings don't saywhich they are.
WHY THIS ONEThe first appearance of the Predator in comics, and the series that started everythingDark Horse went on to build with the licence — it's the run that led directly to Aliensvs Predator. The #1 cover, with the Predator standing over a Manhattan rooftop amongthe pigeons, is one of the most recognisable images of the era.
CONDITIONRaw and ungraded. My honest estimate is Very Fine, with #1 the softest of the four.
The good: colours are strong across all four — the red-to-yellow gradient on #1 isbright and unfaded, and the greens on #2 are clean. Books are square and lie flat,spines straight with no roll. Interiors are clean, pages cream as normal for 1989newsprint.
The flaws: #1 shows edge wear, and some light surface rubbing in the red sky area ofthe cover. #2, #3 and #4 present better than #1.
