United States Lines - An original, hardbound "Cabin Class Berthing Book" for the S.S. UNITED STATES.
The unused book measures 14" by 17" and has forty-eight pre-printed pages listing each stateroom in Cabin Class. The book would have been filled in by the head room steward for each voyage.
Each listing includes space for names; columns for how many adults, children, infants and servants; address; rate; "option" (?); deposit receipt; ticket number; returning date; and remarks. The remarks section would have been used to note job titles and company affiliation, if the passenger was a regular, and which port they were heading to.
This one-of-a-kind relic comes from the Frank Braynard Collection. Braynard was a long-time fixture in the New York shipping world and was well known for his saving of documents and objects from the golden era of ocean condition.
