1901 DuPont Powder Advertising Calendar Card – Jas. Fernley
Description: Attractive 1901 DuPont Powder advertising calendar card measuring 3½” x 5⅞”, featuring a colorful lithographed sporting scene of a hunter afield with two pointers, printed in rich autumn tones and bordered in blue. The upper panel reads "Compliments of T. Jas. Fernley, 505 Commerce St., Philadelphia, Pa.” with bold "DuPont Powder” advertising below. The lower calendar section is dated March 1901 and carries the familiar slogan, "Most Popular Powder—DuPont Smokeless.”
The reverse promotes E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., Wilmington, Del., extolling DuPont Smokeless Powder as "the best Nitro Powder in the World” and the "sportsmen’s favorite.” The text encourages customers to specify DuPont when ordering loaded shells and to write for catalogues and advertising materials. The card retains good color with mild edge wear, a few light stains, and the original hanging hole intact—an excellent survivor from the early smokeless powder era.
A fine and highly displayable example of turn-of-the-century DuPont sporting ephemera, combining vivid lithography, period advertising, and a named dealer imprint. This example still retains the March through December 1901 calendar pages. The bottom corners show moderate wear and handling, and the hanging hole at the top is torn but remains present—typical of these smaller trade calendars. A desirable and well-preserved piece for collectors of ammunition, gunpowder, or early sporting advertising.
