Circa 1914 WWI portrait of a soldier from a German calvary unit, captured on a cabinet card photograph by J. Fuchs in Berlin. 

• Subject: The photograph depicts a young man dressed in a traditional dress uniform, which typically includes a waffenrock (coat), a unit sash and a small cap. Some German major university fraternities used dress uniforms much like the military as well.

• Item: He is posed holding a säbel (sword), which is a common for German portraits. 

• Origin: The photo was taken in Berlin by a photographer named J. Fuchs, as indicated on the bottom of the card. 

Time Period: Cabinet cards like this one were very popular in Germany during the late 19th and early 20th centuries
