• Tank Size: An adult requires a 10-gallon tank or similar horizontal floor space. Prioritize width and length over height to prevent dangerous falls.

• Substrate Depth: Provide 4 to 6 inches (or more) of substrate.

• Substrate Mix: Use a firm mix, such as a blend of sand and excavator clay or organic topsoil, that holds its shape so their underground burrows do not collapse.

• Dry Environment: Keep the enclosure completely dry. High humidity and stagnant air cause fatal fungal infections.

Temperature and Lighting

• Temperature: Maintain an ambient temperature range between 75°F and 85°F. Normal room temperature is often sufficient, but a low-wattage heat mat can be placed on the side of the tank if needed.

• Lighting: A standard 12-hour photoperiod using LED or fluorescent light is ideal. UV blacklights can be used briefly at night to watch them glow fluorescently.

Feeding and Hydration

• Diet: Feed adult specimens appropriately sized insects (such as crickets or dubia roaches) once a week or every 10–14 days depending on their abdomen size. Avoid feeding during or right after a molt.

• Water: They get most of their moisture from prey, but a tiny, shallow bottle-cap water dish can be offered sparingly for 24 hours once or twice a month.

Handling and Safety

• Do Not Handle: They are defensive, fast, and will sting if disturbed. While their venom is not medically significant to most humans, the sting is very painful. Use long tongs for maintenance.
