We recently acquired a wealth of cassette recordings, made in the early 1970s, by Lynn Pruitt, a Texas freelance reporter who scoured Texas making cassette recordings of interviews he made with a plethora of people (artists; politicians; musicians; drivers; etc). Tho Pruitt was a freelancer, he was an excellent interviewer, starting off interviews with where they were, superb follow-up questions, unusual lead questions and such.
These cassettes (Two 60 minute) master recordings is an interview from 1975 with JOHN A. GRONOUSKI JR (1919-1996) who was involved in JFKs 1960 Presidential campaign and transitioned to LBJs team after Kennedys assassination. He became the U.S. Postmaster General from 1963-1965 and later, the Ambassador to Poland.
Pruitts interview is in depth taking up three sides of the two cassettes (the last side is dead air) and touches upon a myriad of subjects including his perceptions of JFK (\"self deprecating; tough exec; attractive to both men and women\"), Johnson (\"difficult; chaffed at being VICE President\"), Robert Kennedy (\"bright, aggressive; ruthless; mellowed later in life); Hubert Humphrey; Speaker of the House John McCormack; learning of the assassination on a ticker tape and calling the White House to find almost everybody gone; Ladybird and being a guest at The Johnson Ranch. He also gives his opinion about the Lee Oswald assassination (doubts of the assassinations being done alone); Lyndon \"looking grave\" and \"very upset\" when the murdered presidents plane landed.
Its an interesting reflection of one man who was in the middle of it all as it was happening.
These are a One Of A Kind pair of cassettes; the original raw recordings of which no other copies have been made.
