ULTRA RARE PIECE OF RED SOX HISTORY: 1997 NOMAR GARCIAPARRA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR JOSTENS RING DISPLAY BOX
Up for sale is an exceptionally rare, player and team-tier sports artifact: the official Jostens Maple Presentation Box designed specifically for Nomar Garciaparra’s 1997 American League Rookie of the Year award.
This is NOT a commercial retail reproduction or a modern fantasy piece. This is an original, ultra-limited manufacturer piece crafted by Jostens—the legendary championship jeweler—intended solely for the player, team executives, or archival vaults. An identical box from this elite production run previously sold through premier sports memorabilia houses for over $425.
KEY FEATURES & AUTHENTICITY MARKERS:
• Premium Construction: Crafted from solid, heavy maple wood with robust, tight-fitting hinges typical of elite sports presentation awards.
• Inlaid Steel Plaque: The top cover features a beautifully preserved, flush-mounted steel emblem boasting the classic Boston Red Sox logo, \"1997 Rookie of the Year\" design accents, and a crisp facsimile signature of Nomar Garciaparra.
• Stunning Interior: Open the box to find the original, lush dark green velvet lining designed to display a heavy championship-style award ring beautifully.
• Jostens Provenance: The reverse underside shows the authentic placement matching Jostens\' strict archival manufacturing standards of the late 1990s.
CONDITION NOTES:
The box is in beautiful vintage condition. The wood retains a gorgeous natural luster, the hinges work perfectly, and the interior velvet remains soft and vibrant. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to evaluate the exact cosmetic condition of the wood edges and steel plaque before offerding. (Note: This listing is for the original presentation box only; no ring is included).
WHY THIS BELONGS IN YOUR COLLECTION:
Nomar Garciaparra’s 1997 rookie season is legendary—hitting .306 with 30 home runs and 98 RBIs to capture a unanimous AL Rookie of the Year title. Industry standards dictate that fewer than 5 to 10 of these premium boxes were ever produced, making this a ghost-rare acquisition for any serious Red Sox historian, Nomar collector, or high-end sports memorabilia investor.
