Silver Matrix in/on Calcite (Bouismas Mine, Morocco) 89g
Bouismas Mine, Bou-Azzer mining district, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
The silver matrix exposed on this specimen is >99% purity native silver and originates from one of the highest purity sources of silver in the world, the Bouismas Mine in Morocco. The white calcite provides a beautiful contrast host rock for this native silver matrix nugget. This specimen also contains acanthite, which is ~87% silver and ~13% sulfur by weight, and is the darker gray material seen on the specimen. Acanthite is chemically the exact same substance as the dark tarnish on silverware or silver coins, both are silver sulfide (Ag₂S).
Sourced and individually selected by Bullion, Coins & Nuggets, this superb specimen features an expansive, interconnected web of native silver crystallized across a high-contrast matrix. The piece is notably sculptural, with the silver forming a dense "crust" of metallic growth that highlights the natural geometric faces of the host.

Detailed Description
This piece is characterized by its significant metallic coverage. The silver has grown in a reticulated habit, creating a dense network of branches that spread across the uneven surface of the white calcite. These formations transition from fine, feathery edges to thick, solid metallic "trunks" at the centre of the growth zones.
The white calcite matrix acts as a brilliant canvas, emphasizing the complex architecture of the silver. Small patches of dark host rock are visible at the base and within the matrix, providing a grounded, natural feel that contrasts beautifully with the refined luster of the precious metal.
Collector’s Note
The structural complexity of the silver fans in this specimen is exceptional. The way the metallic "foliage" clusters together suggests a very rich hydrothermal deposit. For collectors who prioritize "metal on matrix" saturation, this piece offers an impressive volume of native silver while maintaining the elegance of the white calcite association. A balanced cabinet piece that offers interest on all sides, making it ideal for a 360-degree display.
You will receive the exact piece shown in the photographs. Natural variations, inclusions, surface markings, and irregularities are part of the mineral’s natural formation and are not defects. Colors may vary slightly depending on lighting and screen settings.
