Authentic French military equipment attributed to the First / Second French Empire, consisting of original period items. An excellent set for collectors of Napoleonic militaria, museum display, or historical reenactment.The lot includes:1. White buffalo leather crossbelt with its original black leather cartridge box (giberne) featuring a large brass flaming grenade emblem.2. Original leather sabre belt with sword suspension, complete.3. Original bayonet for a military musket, with its original scabbard, bearing original inspection marks and stamp.Overall length with scabbard: 54 cm (21.3 in)Bayonet length: 48 cm (18.9 in)Blade width at the base: 2.5 cm (1 in)4. Original wooden military canteen, complete with its carrying strap. The canteen shows some old woodworm holes consistent with its age, without affecting its historical value or display quality.Height (including neck): 30 cm (11.8 in)Width: 20 cm (7.9 in)5. Bonus: Three original unfired lead musket balls from the Napoleonic period.All items in this lot are authentic period pieces.ConditionOverall, the set is in very good antique condition with an attractive age-related patina. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description and accurately show the condition of each item.Historical BackgroundThis type of equipment was used by French infantry during the First French Empire and continued, with some variations, into the Second French Empire. The white buffalo leather crossbelt supported the cartridge box, while the waist belt carried the sabre and bayonet. The large brass flaming grenade on the cartridge box is one of the most recognizable emblems of French infantry.This complete and well-preserved ensemble represents an outstanding example of 19th-century French military equipment and would make an excellent addition to any Napoleonic or military collection.ImportantThe mannequin shown in the photographs is not included in this sale.
