Lathe-turned, oiled cherry wood lampshade, handmade by Yoshitaka Nayakaya in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan, fitted with an E12 bulb socket attached to an electrical cord, and an E12 to E26 socket converter.
A handmade lampshade made by Yoshitaka Nakaya using wood from a cherry tree that grew in the foothills of Mt. Fuji.
After the trees are felled, the logs are thoroughly moistened, and the characteristics of the wood, such as the direction of the grain and the location of knots, are determined prior to being cut into smaller pieces with a chainsaw. After removing the bark and exterior wood, the each log is shaped into a cylinder using a lathe and left to dry for two to three weeks. During time spent drying, distortions and twists in the wood occur naturally, giving the lampshade its appealing, unique shape.

After the trees are felled, the logs are thoroughly moistened, and the characteristics of the wood, such as the direction of the grain and the position of the knots, are determined before being harvested using a chainsaw. After removing the rough wood, it is cut into a perfect circle using a machine called a lathe, and left to dry for about 2 to 3 weeks.During the drying process, natural distortions and twists occur, creating a unique lampshade.
