IOAN NEMTOI(b.1964 ROMANIA) went to artist high school(showed affinity for clay) attended Art Academy in Bucharest for 6 years with a B.A. in ceramics, GLASS, and China. HE Opened a studio near his native town(it had a specific quality of sand (silica) critical to glass making. His talents were evident and his works began to be acquired by galleries, museums, collectors. Even the VATICAN. One of his works is even at the UNICEF HEADQUARTERS.
He is the first Romanian to open a Gallery in Manhattan.
This piece is in pristine condition. Its attribution is probably from the NEMTOI FOREST SERIES. It has a commanding presence and appears to be wrapped in a dense foliage with black branches interspersed. It is a heavy piece 7lb. No cracks, chips, surface wear and has an outstanding rounded corner triangular shape. It would be Superb for that special corner niche. It exudes earth tones in a unique pattern which plays with your senses from any side. The graceful curved lower portion bears the classic embedded and BOLD hand engraved/etched NEMTOI hand signed large lettering. Appx. three inches long on the curvilinear surface above the base on the side.
The bottom has a satin finish with a recessed ground down and polished pontil.
