Offered for sale is an impressive monumental Vestal Alcobaça hand-painted Portuguese faience floor urn complete with its original domed lid and beautifully sculpted double cherub finial. Measuring an impressive 29 inches tall, this large decorative urn showcases the exceptional craftsmanship for which the Alcobaça ceramic workshops of Portugal are renowned.
The urn is richly decorated with vibrant cobalt blue Rococo scrollwork accented with hand-painted floral bouquets and a striking Portuguese Royal Coat of Arms on the front. The sculptural body is enhanced with raised molded decoration and finished in brilliant hand-painted enamels with subtle gilt highlights, creating a dramatic statement piece suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The original domed cover is crowned by two finely modeled seated cherubs, making this one of Vestal’s most decorative and desirable large-format designs. The underside bears the original handwritten factory mark:
Vestal Alcobaça
Portugal
Hand Painted
Model No. 1000
Large covered examples of this size are considerably more difficult to find than the smaller decorative vases commonly seen on the market, making this a wonderful addition for collectors of Portuguese ceramics, European faience, or luxury interior décor.
