Contemporary modern day display piece designed and hand made by Gilbert Kianna Salazar - living member of the Kickapoo (Kikapua) tribe, artist and our co-owner Tyrell’s maternal uncle.
This piece measures approximately 23 inches in length and features a solid hardwood body with a broad, wedge-shaped carved cow leg bone element.
The overall form references old school tradition while being presented as a modern day collection piece created for display only.
The wood shows hand-tool marks and a sealed resin finish that reflects traditional Kikapua creation methods rather than modern day machine production.
The handle is carved and leather wrapped then sealed with resin for grip and balance. The carved bone spike element has been set into the wooden base handle and bonded into place .
All materials were ethically sourced having been provided by Mother Earth in a ready to use state in SE and Central Oklahoma. Minimal modern adhesives and sealers were used only where necessary for structural stability and long lasting quality.
This is a modern made work by a living Indigenous artist, not an old school made antique. It is meant to be a reproduction of traditional Kickapoo hand tools made in the old ways. It was not intended to be used as a traditional ceremonial piece. It is intended solely as a collectible art piece representing living Native American craftsmanship and cultural continuity.
