A striking and substantial signed art-glass vase by Romanian glass artist Misu Coman, featuring brilliant cobalt-blue glass with sweeping white and amber/orange bands, multicolored inclusions near the base, and dramatic applied metal ornamentation surrounding the body.

The vase has an exceptionally sculptural form. Its mouth has been pulled outward into four dramatic flaring points, creating a flower-like silhouette when viewed from above. The body is richly colored in intense translucent cobalt blue, while the lower portion incorporates scattered yellow, orange, white and darker glass accents.

Most distinctive is the extensive applied metal decoration encircling the vase. The warm bronze/brass-toned elements form flowing, almost Art Nouveau-inspired curves, spirals and elongated organic shapes against the blue glass. Natural oxidation and patination to the metal add considerable visual depth and character.

Misu Coman was born in Buzău, Romania in 1961 and studied at the Bucharest Academy of Fine Art. He established his own studio in 1990 and became known for highly colorful hand-blown glass incorporating bold abstract forms and contrasting applied decoration.
