Nice Mid 20th Century Salvador Teran piece Attributed Mexican Brass & Glass Mosaic Mayan Portrait Tray. A long brass tray shaped like a pepper with a handle at the end, features a glass mosaic portrait of a Mayan person. Unsigned, attributed to Salvador Teran. A loop hole ring is attached on the back for wall hanging. Very nice estate item with the original tag still on the back from many years ago.
Salvador Teran (1920-1974) was a Mexican mosaic artist and silversmith born in Taxco, Mexico. He received early training at William Spratling's Taller de Las Delicias, then left to establish Los Castillo in 1939 alongside his cousins. Then in 1952, Salvador left to establish a taller, called La India Bonita, in Mexico City. Most of his works were inspired by pre-Columbian motifs. He died in 1974.

Condition: Excellent condition. No missing or loose glass mosaic pieces. The brass border is not perfectly flat but as intended by the artist.
