π HISTORICAL BACKGROUND β WEST POINT ST. NICHOLAS
America β Circa 1837
This collectible was inspired by Robert Weir\'s 1837 painting of St. Nicholas, an important artistic contribution to the development of the American Santa Claus tradition.
According to the original historical information card:
π Robert Weir was a drawing instructor at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
π His interpretation of St. Nicholas incorporated elements of traditional Dutch Christmas customs, including a hooded cape, Dutch-style clothing, and boots.
π The military-style stripe on his coat and tan coloring reflected Weir\'s association with West Point.
π The orange-colored object at St. Nicholas\'s feet references the Dutch House of Orange.
π The familiar gesture of placing a finger beside his nose was inspired by Clement Clarke Moore\'s famous poem The Night Before Christmas, written approximately 17 years earlier.
This historic interpretation helped shape the image of Santa Claus that would become familiar to generations of American families.
A WONDERFUL HISTORICAL COLLECTIBLE CELEBRATING THE EVOLUTION OF SANTA CLAUS IN AMERICA!
