Toa Sekiguchi was born in 1942 in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture into a family of famous kokeshi artists. He is the son of the famous Sansaku Sekiguchi who has his own kokeshi museum in Gunma.
Toa Sekiguchi is an accomplished sosaku Master in his own right. He started out as an independent maker in the 1980s. He is the winner of many artistic competition awards, including the prestigious Prime Minister\'s Award, the highest distinction that can be bestowed on a kokeshi artist, for the work titled \"Hope\" in 2001.His works are diverse in style and are highly regarded by collectors.
This delicately decorated figurine is a example of Sekiguchi-san\'s highly individual style.
