Mario de Bernardi Autograph Italian WW I Fighter Pilot, Air Racer, Autograph For Sale

Mario de Bernardi [1893 1959] was an Italian World War 1 fighter pilot, seaplane air racer of the 1920\'s and test pilot of early Italian experimental jets. He learned to fly in 1914 and during World War I he was credited with four [4] aerial victories while serving in the Italian Air Service. After the war he was a prominent air racer and won the Schneider Trophy in 1926. In the 1930\'s he was a noted test pilot for the Caproni Aircraft Company. Bernardi died on April 8, 1959, suffering a heart attack while flying but was able to land his aircraft. Listed for sale is a vintage Air Mail cover signed by Mario de Bernardi. The cover is affixed with a cachet which commemorates the 1931 National Air Races in Cleveland and is signed \'\'Mario de Bernardi Cleveland 2-9-31\'\' in blue fountain pen. The cover is postmarked Cleveland, Ohio Sep 2, 1931, and is affixed with one U.S. airmail stamp. The cover measures 6.50 x 3.75 inches with trivial toning/edge wear otherwise is in very good condition.
