Mae West Goin\' to Town 1935 Original Press Photo Newspaper Crop Markings Clippings
Original vintage 8\" x 10\" Paramount publicity photograph of Mae West in the 1935 film Goin\' to Town, with Paul Cavanagh.
An especially interesting example of an original Hollywood publicity photograph that was actually used for newspaper reproduction. The front has extensive period editorial crop markings, opaque/paint and handwritten reproduction notations, apparently indicating the portions of the photograph selected for publication.
Even better, several period newspaper clippings are glued to the reverse, showing this Mae West image as it actually appeared in print. The clippings bear 1935 date stamps including May, June and August dates, providing fascinating documentation of the photograph\'s contemporary newspaper use.
The original Paramount caption remains printed along the lower margin: “Mae West in ‘GOIN’ TO TOWN’ with Paul Cavanagh – A Paramount Picture,” along with the 1935 Paramount copyright notice.
This is very much a working press/archive photograph rather than a pristine publicity still. It has substantial period crop markings and opaque/paint on the image, handwritten editorial notations, glued newspaper clippings on the reverse, handling wear, creasing and other age/use wear. These alterations are part of the photograph\'s history as a working newspaper publicity image.
