This is abeautiful MONSTER Size fossil Auriculatus shark tooth from the Eocene of SouthCarolina! Auriculatus (Carcharocles auriculatus) was a giant species ofprehistoric shark widely believed to be a direct ancestor to the infamousMegalodon. It lived approximately 45 to 34 million years ago during the EoceneEpoch and could grow to over 30 feet (9 meters) in length! It fed primarily onlarge fish, smaller sharks and marine mammals. It\' teeth are well known forbeing large, triangular and serrated like its descendant megalodon but withcusps remaining from its earlier ancestors. Over the next few million years theshark would evolve to be even larger meanwhile its teeth would grow larger,more robust, and eventually lose their cusps completely resulting in Megalodon.A great addition to any fossil collection or gift for aspiring paleontologists,the tooth measures a WHOPPING 3.18 inches(8.07 cm) along its longest edge, which is GARGANTUAN for this species whose teethusually measure about 2 inches, with great serrations and no repair,restoration, or alteration!
