One page, 6 ¼ x 8 ¼, ALS to his mother from Camp Nelson, KY, Dec. 21, 1864, mentioning the Battle of Nashville and how Gen. Hood is on the run. “Dear Mother, it is with much pleasure that I sit down to let you know that I am as well as can be expected under the circumstances. My leg is getting well pretty fast so I expect to go to Mt. Sterling in a few days. They have been fighting like the old harry down in Tennessee but wasn’t in it so I don’t know any more about it then you do only as I read it in the paper and I suppose the rebs got whipped like sixty for the paper states that old Hood got all cut up and demoralized and was making the best of his way toward Richmond but the bridges are all burnt over the River so he can get across it and one of our Generals are in his rear so he will get captured probably.

“Well I got a letter from Gina about 2 weeks and I answered it the next day. I don’t know whether you got it or not. It is pretty cold down here now so cold that a man froze his fingers while standing on guard down to the prison. Well I don’t know what else to write next...so I guess I will quit by offerding you good bye. Your son A.J.P.\"

Folds with scattered foxing and toning.
