A US M1874/8 Recruit (boot camp) Training Haversack inspector marked - Watervliet Arsenal is an original period item connected to the Indian Wars of 1866-97.
This military artifact showcases the new recruits and the haversack they would have used. I sold a few of these, but none were inspector marked by The wstetvliet Arsenal. This Military training haversack would have been re-used over (as seen in photos).. Some haversacks have as many as three names.
The haversack, provided the storage for a soldier's essential items during training.
The leather straps would connect to the soldiers belt or horse. Stored in an AC storage for over 30 years.
A rare find in itself as to the normal haversack and markings.
