WIRE PRESS PHOTOS
A wire press photo is an imagetransmitted electronically by news agencies (like the Associated Press orReuters) over telephone or radio lines to subscribing newspapers.
Pioneered in the 1930's this "earlyfax" technology allowed global newspapers to print breaking news images onthe same day an event occurred.
Because they were generated to be quicklyreproduced by printing presses, the photos are often printed on thinner,lighter or slicker paper than typical studio portraits.
They usually feature typed papercaptions, dates or publishing stamps and can also be brownish or sepia tone incolor.
