Photo Overview
Lew Ayres is shown in a classic 1931 Hollywood publicity image, casually dressed in an open-neck white shirt and wide-brimmed hat, leaning forward with an intense gaze; this later 4x6 photographic print is boldly hand signed by Lew Ayres in black ink across the lower border and additionally annotated “1988” and “Photo 1931,” with his name identified again in pencil on the reverse.
Lew Ayres was an American film actor best known for his breakout role as Paul Baumer in the anti-war classic “All Quiet on the Western Front” (1930) and later for playing Dr. Kildare in MGM’s hugely popular series of medical dramas. His conscientious objector stance during World War II, and his long career in both film and television, have made signed images of him highly collectible, especially those referencing his early 1930s stardom as this one does. Add this scarce, personally autographed Lew Ayres piece to your collection today before another classic cinema fan snaps it up.
Print analysis:
This is a later photographic print made from an earlier 1931 studio image and signed by Lew Ayres in 1988, as indicated by his inscription. The semi-gloss paper surface and lack of studio press stamps suggest a privately produced modern print rather than a vintage publicity still. Because the print was made more than three years after the original negative date, it is best classified as a Type 2 photo, likely printed c1980s, then hand signed by Ayres at that time.
Condition: Photo is in good to excellent condition. Autograph is hand signed.
