Leopold Oudry Antique C19th Copper Bronze Style Relief Plaque Of Goddess SalaciaThis stunning 7.5\" round cast metal plaque will make a gorgeous addition to your collection. It features a relief panel image of Salacia, Roman goddess of the sea surrounded by objects & icons relating to her mythology including freshly caught fish in her hand, a stylized sea vessel / boat in the background, aquatic flora and finely detailed textures. In addition, there is a margin border composed of an Neoclassical or Aesthetic style leafy vine with a butterfly on the left and a dragonfly on the right. The plaque was mounted in a framed tufted fabric mounting when I purchased it but the frame/fabric and mounting had not been properly stored for decades and were not salvageable. The plaque includes a back mounting post that held it in place to the fabric mounting in addition to some left over adhesive on the back. I do not know if the piece was originally created for use as wall décor or if it was originally made to be mounted within another decorative object such as a tazza. Please note, the finish and color of the metal was very difficult to photograph and may look different on your device screen than it does to the naked eye...with that said, I am including FREE domestic returns (USA only) in order to ensure that you are happy with your purchase...I do ask that you choose \"Just Didn\'t Like It\" as the reason for return and I will happily refund your purchase price once I receive it back. It does have wear including surface finish loss, scratches, patina, dents, verdigris and more so PLEASE read complete details below and review photos closely for condition. • Approximate weight is 1 lb 4 ozs
• Measures approximately 1\" x 7.5\" x 7.5\"
• Condition: In antique pre-owned condition with wear as shown in photos including finish loss on the copper tone metal surface, dents, dings, scratches, small spots of tarnish/patina/verdigris, scuffing, pitting, dimpling, discoloring, stains, some areas of texture that might indicate original or later repairs made to the surface as shown in detail in photos, hairline cracking around the edges, the back of the plaque is heavily scratched and includes areas of glue residue, the form is somewhat bent out of shape and is not in the round, there is heavy surface wear to the detail of the relief including the L. Oudry mark which has nearly wore off completely, there are areas of metal gold wash in the details, the majority of the metal includes a copper tone metal plating that has heavy wear with voids/thinning/discoloring, gunk/grime/dirt/dust in the crevices and details, there is a spot of verdigris on the edge of the vine border at the bottom and one against the left eye of the dragonfly, as mentioned above I do not know what the original intended purpose of the piece was so I may not be privy to missing pieces/parts/wear, surface plating loss, uneven textures/forms/lines/details and overall wear from age and handling. • Age/era: Unknown, I am guessing that it is pre-1900 based on Leopold Oudry living from 1854-1882 but I cannot guarantee
• Origin: Unknown, likely France based on the maker but I cannot guarantee
• Marks: The plaque includes a mark of \"L. Oudry\" beneath the figure\'s right foot (circled in white in one of the collage style listing photos) but the mark is almost completely wore away due to wear on the metal surface (and likely wear to the original mold)...only \"L. O\" is visible (at least to me). In addition, the back mounting post is marked/stamped \"42\" on the end next to the screw hole.
