Authentic Northwest Coast Carved Cedar Eagle Bowl by Cree Master Artist Len Paquette
Product Description
Up for sale is a stunning, authentic piece of Canadian First Nations art handcrafted by the late renowned master carver Len Paquette (Leonard Paquette Jackson).
While Len Paquette proudly holds Cree Nation heritage tracing back to Slave Lake, Alberta, he spent his adult life immersed in Pacific Northwest Coast traditions. He developed his mastery training alongside legendary West Coast carvers like Gene Brabant and Francis Horne. As a result, this beautiful piece seamlessly bridges his Cree identity with flawlessly executed, traditional Northwest Coast formline relief design.
The exterior flanks of the canoe vessel display complex relief carvings highlighting classic ovoid and U-form shapes in deep black and red polychrome paints. The eagle's eyes are inlaid with an elegant shimmering Mother of Pearl / Abalone shell, catching the light beautifully.
The underside is hand-engraved with the artist's signature: "LEN PAQUETTE" (visible in pictures). This is a top-tier investment piece for collectors of authentic Indigenous art.
🪵 Masterful Multi-Piece Construction Details
This exceptional piece showcases classic, advanced tribal woodwork engineering. Rather than being hollowed from a single block of wood, the eagle head was masterfully sculpted as a separate structural element. It is permanently fixed to the bow of the canoe utilizing a heavy wood joinery method, cleanly secured by an anchoring flush wooden dowel visible on the flat bottom of the bowl.
Dimensions
• Length: Approx. 13.5 inches (Measured rim-to-rim via ruler)
• Height: Approx. 7 inches (Measured base to top of Eagle head)
