Lelievre Double-sided 19th century French Gilded Bronze Double Inkwell on Stand:
$250.00

This is a 19th century French gilded bronze double inkwell on stand by Octave Georges Lelievre. The inkwell is double-sided and signed by the designer. It is made of bronze and has an antique class=\"MsoNormal\">My living estate sale continues with yetanother of my many treasures that I am gradually offering. First off, this ishighly polished, and the multiple photos viewed as a compilation will/should show that the distortionsand dark areas are from reflections and shadows as well as exaggerations. Lighttarnishing is removable as well as any leftover Brasso overlooked from a cleaningyears ago.

This antique late 1800sOctave Lelievre, French Brass Double Inkwell. The four ½ inch feet are present, wellattached and in good condition. Thestands dimensions are 14 ¾ inches on the outside width & 5 ½ inch on theoutside depth. From bottom of feet toheight of inkwell hold is 4 ¼ inches. Terraceddown to stands flat width and length of 3” by 12”.

Description:This is a good-looking antique gilded bronze Double Inkwell with each exquisitelypresenting bas- relief designs throughout, with inverted laurel wreaths on bothsides of wells, (a symbol of honor), without monograms I might add. Removable glass ink bottles are superb. Smooth action hinged lids are adorned withacorn holds, top off their clean designs. These are interlocked by a pivoting, two-sided, front and rear braidedbanner that is suspended over the prominent signature O. Lelievre (Octave Georges Lelievre 1838 – 1919). The “stand” is highly polished with bas-reliefspositioned around the scrolled down perimeter as well. On the flat vertical edgethere is some scuffing that stands out significantly more in the photos than real-life.The 4 four round feet as with everythingelse is stable as new.

Iam in no way an expert in this area, just an earnest fan with a couple more piecesof my antique desk collection to come. I do try to give a thorough descriptionthough. If you have any questions please ask, they should be answered in lessthan 24 hrs. The many photos are the principal part of the description.

*Note: Lelievre was a well-respected French Designer/Artist,best known as a sculptor of bronze statues and home furnishings in the art nouveau genre.Susse Freres of Paris cast many of his bronzes. He also seemed to favorgilt patinas. But I believe this base maybe brass because of the brilliant sheen with the upper portions bronze. Then-again I am not a metallurgist asobviously some of the venders here seem to be.
