Large striking Balinese relief Sand Stone Panel 3'x4' of four armed Chenrezig.
This is a striking piece — and it’s actually depicting a specific figure from Tibetan Buddhist/Himalayan iconography, even though it was carved in Bali.
The figure: four-armed Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara)The iconography is textbook: two main hands pressed together at the heart (often holding a wish-fulfilling jewel), an upper right hand holding a crystal mala (prayer beads), and an upper left hand holding the stem of a blooming lotus at the shoulder. Seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne, tall jeweled crown, urna (third-eye dot) on the forehead, and elaborate flowing scarves — this is the four-armed form of Chenrezig/Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, one of the most commonly depicted figures in Himalayan Buddhist art.
