Large Folk Art Painted Wood Man Sculpture Primitive Figure 23" Tall For Sale

Large hand-carved and painted folk art figure of a man wearing a broad-brimmed black hat, pleated white collar, dark buttoned vest and gray trousers. Standing an impressive 23 inches tall, the figure has the wonderfully simplified proportions and direct, almost naïve expression associated with American folk carving.

The restrained palette and intentionally spare facial features give the sculpture a particularly strong graphic quality. Considerable surface wear and exposed underlying paint add to its primitive character.
