Through careful restoration, these images are presented for collectors who appreciate classic film, photographic history, and exceptional presentation.
ABOUT THIS PHOTO
Linda Hayden as Helga and Peter Bayliss as Maltravers appear together in this colorful publicity photograph from Vampira (1974), posed inside the richly decorated interior of Count Dracula’s castle.
Hayden’s long blonde hair, pale blouse and vivid red outer garment contrast sharply with Bayliss’s formal white evening wear, bow tie and dark Gothic cape. Maltravers rests an arm around Helga’s shoulders as she looks upward toward him, creating a relaxed and playful interaction that reflects the film’s comic treatment of classic vampire imagery.
The ornate setting adds considerable visual character, with patterned wallpaper, framed artwork, decorative furnishings and warm interior lighting surrounding the two performers. Hayden’s distinctly contemporary 1970s appearance provides an especially effective contrast with Bayliss’s old-world Gothic styling.
Directed by Clive Donner from a screenplay by Jeremy Lloyd, Vampira stars David Niven as Count Dracula and Teresa Graves as Countess Vampira. The British comedy-horror film was later released in the United States under the alternate title Old Dracula.
For collectors, this photograph offers an appealing combination of Linda Hayden, British horror, Gothic styling and colorful 1970s vampire cinema in one distinctive composition.
LINDA HAYDEN & PETER BAYLISS
Linda Hayden became one of the most recognizable actresses associated with British horror and cult cinema of the late 1960s and 1970s. Her notable genre appearances include Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), The Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971) and Vampira (1974). Her distinctive screen presence has made her especially popular with collectors of classic British horror photography and memorabilia.
Peter Bayliss was a prolific British character actor whose career encompassed film, television and theatre. In Vampira, he portrays Maltravers, Count Dracula’s loyal manservant, bringing a dry comic quality to the film’s playful treatment of traditional Gothic horror conventions.
