LARGE CIRCULAR MID 19TH CENTURY NEEDLEPOINT OF A FLORAL SPRAY & GARLAND - c.1850 For Sale

Mid 19th century circular needlepoint - c.1850. Worked in wool, presumably on gauze, this needlepoint is just stunning with fine quality stitch work throughout. The black background is dominated by a central spray of a variety of flowers both in bud and full bloom surrounded by lush foliage, which in turn is then surrounded by a meandering floral border.
I KNEW THE NEEDLEPOINT DIDN\'T HAVE GLASS WHEN I BOUGHT IT BUT I HAD TO HAVE IT AS IT\'S JUST SO SPECTACULAR! THE FRAME DOES HOWEVER, IT DOES HAVE ITS ORIGINAL BACKING CLOTH. As such I\'m not able to see the reverse, but thecolours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. The needlepoint is contained within its original ornate frame which is in good condition with some scratches and scuff marks commensurate with its age. There is also an old split to the lower left curve of the inside of the frame which often occurs with circular frames as the sections of wood have to be bent into that shape. The backing cloth is discoloured with staining to the lower right side plus a small rip in that area and a few small paint splashes.PLEASE NOTE - This is a fairly large piece measuring 22 1/4\" (diameter sight size) and 30\" x 34\" to the outermost extremities of the carving.
