Avery rare very large late 16th century Germanicrenaissance great chamber clock dating from around 1580.
Veryheavily built and well made strap type iron movement with two part forged iron wheels with decorative crossings.
Thismovement has the exceptionally rare feature of having an extra wheelin each train and giving it much longer duration than is normally found in thesetypes of clocks.
Originallywith balance verge escapement, later (late 17th century?) converted to long pendulum andanchor escapement, however the movement retains the original lowerpotence and bridge from the original balance escapement.
Savefor the escapement, the clock retains all its original wheelwork andmechanism in the unaltered state.
Theclock retains its original forged iron top, bottom and back plates, case framing straps, together with hanging loop, however the original painted iron dial plate, hand and painted iron side doors are missing. There is a later woodendial and iron hand both likely dating to the later 17th or18th century.
Thisis an exceptionally difficult to find item and this opportunity toacquire such a clock will never come again.
