I am selling an auto/signed Karl Kammer 4x6 photograph.
Kammer was born on January 13, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Army on his 18th birthday in 1944 and began his basic training on March 29, 1944.
Kammer was sent to Ft. Knox, KY armored school, where he learned to operate radio equipment transmitting and receiving messages and using International Morse Code. He was then assigned to the 396th Field Artillery Battalion, 16th Armored Division as a Radio Operator at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas.
On February 5, 1945, Kammer departed from the New York Port of Embarkation and arrived in Le Havre, France. While in France, he awaited an assignment and on April 17, 1945 they were assigned to Patton’s 3rd Army. He entered Germany two days later and prepared for combat.
During the final days of the war, Kammer crossed the Sudetenland between Germany and Czechoslovakia. The 16th Armored Division was on their way to liberate the city of Pilsen in Czechoslovakia.
