New in the original Cole box and sheath. Storage has left green residue and corrosion on the brass guard and corrosion around the aluminum buttcap. These issues are common on Cole-era Ka-Bar knives from long-term storage. Look closely at the photos for the extent of the brass and buttcap condition. Blade and handle otherwise appear unused.
Description & History
Ka-Bar is a long-established American knife brand known for fixed-blade utility and military knives. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Cole Consumer Products of Cleveland, Ohio produced and distributed Ka-Bar knives under the Cole name. The 1226 is a fixed-blade model with a stacked leather handle, brass guard, and aluminum buttcap. These Cole-era Ka-Bars are recognized by collectors for their construction and period packaging. Storage-related corrosion on brass and aluminum fittings is frequently seen on unused examples that have remained boxed for decades.
This 1226 has a stacked leather handle, brass guard, and aluminum buttcap. The blade is marked Kabar 1226 USA. The knife remains in its original Cole box labeled 1226 and includes the original leather sheath with a Ka-Bar hang tag. The box shows Cole Consumer Products, Cleveland, Ohio, and a 1981 copyright. Green residue is present on the brass guard and corrosion is visible around the aluminum buttcap from long-term storage. These issues are common on this brand and era. The blade and handle otherwise show no signs of use.
Cole-era Ka-Bar 1226 knives are collected for their American manufacture, stacked leather handles, and original packaging. Complete examples in the original box and sheath are preferred even when storage marks are present on the metal fittings. The combination of the 1226 model, Kabar USA markings, original Cole box, and sheath places this knife within the early 1980s Cole production of Ka-Bar fixed blades.
