- Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. - Typed Letter, signed as Chairman of the United States Maritime Commission on February 17th, 1938. Kennedy was the chairman of this commission from its inception on April 14, 1937 until February 19, 1938 — just two days after this letter was signed! And just over two weeks later on March 8th, 1939, he would be named the 44th United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom by President Roosevelt. Kennedy was the father of President John F. Kennedy as well as Senators Robert & Edward Kennedy, making him the patriarch of the Kennedy family.
