On March 3, 1934, John Dillinger whittled a wooden gun out of an old washboard and used it to completely immobilize the alleged “Escape-Proof” Crown Point jail. Armed with the wooden gun, Dillinger locked up 10-guards and escaped in the Sheriff's V8 squad car.Now you can own an exact copy of Dillinger's wooden gun. This is the same duplicate wooden gun as seen on display at high profile museums:
Lake County Crown Point Jail,
Alcatraz East Museum,
Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum
Crown Antique MallThis wooden gun is hand-carved from a poplar wood, which is the same type that Dillinger had available from an old washboard in his jail cell.
This gun is first drawn out directly onto the wood surface to the exact speculations as the Dillinger wooden gun.
Then, the gun is carefully hand carved by author Tony Stewart.
The gun is sanded and finished with a finer grit. Next, brad type nails are applied for gun sights, and a hard ink pen shell is inserted in the barrel, just like John Dillinger used. The finish coats of paint and lettering are then applied.
It takes two-weeks of preparation to complete this wooden gun. Dillinger had close to 6-weeks to complete his gun.
The wooden gun comes with John Dillinger's signature on a metal plate and a signed letter from the desk of author Tony Stewart. Happy offerding!
