Provenance: Personal gift from Jerry N. Uelsmann to Professor Neal White. The photograph comes from a group of Uelsmann works personally given to Professor White.
Jerry Uelsmann was a pioneering figure in twentieth-century American photography, internationally recognized for constructing complex surreal images through traditional darkroom multiple-printing techniques, decades before digital image manipulation became commonplace.
Self Portrait: Animus/Anima is a documented 1978 Uelsmann composition. An example is held in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
